<h2>CHRIS SMITH</h2>

CHRIS SMITH

BCPTI Founder

Inline with his passion for education and fitness, Chris looked to create a school that would better enable trainers to succeed in the Fitness industry. Being involved in Sport and Recreation his entire life, it was a natural progression for Chris to gravitate from Sports into the Fitness industry. Since starting his career in 1997, Chris has been involved in the training and development of thousands of trainers and has spent countless hours working with clients to help them achieve their fitness goals.

Chris is the founder of the BCPTI and also serves as the President & Chief Operating Officer for Steve Nash Fitness Clubs. Chris holds a degree in Community Health and Wellness from Portland State University. Chris’s educational philosophies and training principles closely align with those of the NSCA and NASM and it’s these principles that have been the foundation to his success. Chris still enjoys training and in his spare time can be found doing something with his loving wife and their five children.

<h2>CHAD BENSON</h2>

CHAD BENSON

Lead Instructor, MSc, BSc, BPE, CSCS, CanFitPro PTS

Educated at the University of Victoria and Memorial University of NL, Chad is the Lead Instructor at BCPTI & Director of Fitness Education for Steve Nash Fitness Clubs.

Past training experiences include sub-contracted & consultant strength & conditioning roles with the National Sailing Team, the Vancouver Canucks, the Canadian Sport Center, B2Ten, the BC Lions, Twist Conditioning, National Women’s Basketball team & the Vancouver Ravens. Chad also has expertise with myofascial therapies, MAT, functional testing & sport rehabilitation. Educationally, Chad is a member of the JCC & CanFitPro Advisory Boards and has delivered educational content throughout North America.
In his spare time Chad enjoys the odd newfie joke, all things fitness, exploring scientific journals, red wine, recreational hockey, tennis, and warm weather destinations.

<h2>SHELLEY SHEREN</h2>

SHELLEY SHEREN

CPT, FST Level 3, SCS, PFS, CTT

Shelley began her career in the medical field graduating from BCIT as a Lab Technologist. Beyond her Personal Training, Shelley holds designations as a Level 3 Certified Fascial Stretch Specialist, Certified Trigenics® Trainer, Sports Conditioning Specialist and Level 2 Certified Rock Doc(Fascial Movement Taping).

Shelley has a strong commitment to learning and expertise in functional movement testing, trigger point release, adult and teenage performance training, post-partum core reconditioning and back to play rehabilitation. She has coached and participated in figure skating, martial arts and distance running.

<h2>BRIAN TRUONG</h2>

BRIAN TRUONG

NASM CPT, AST, PN

Brian has always had a passion for fitness and has been training for 15 years recreationally until recently where he began to compete in powerlifting where he currently holds 2 provincial records as well as the national record for bench press in the 59kg weight class. While he currently is focusing on powerlifting, Brian enjoys practicing and becoming a jack of all trades with regards to all styles and types of training. He became a personal trainer 2 years prior through the BCPTI program in order to work with children with special needs but continued to work within the Steve Nash organization. Brian is also currently doing his Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology in order to one day integrate physical and mental health into a holistic process in helping people become better and healthier. Brian has certifications that range from TRX suspension training, Bulgarian bags, Agatsu kettlebells, Precision Nutrition, Active Stretch Therapy and many more.

Logan played soccer for over 20 years, going as far as NCAA Division 1 collegiate in the US and playing internationally in the UK. Since 1998, working as a coach on the field and in team/athlete strength & conditioning made fitness an easy choice for a second career. In addition to Can Fit Pro Personal Training, Fitness Instructor and Nutrition Wellness, Logan holds additional certifications as a Level 2 Biosignature practitioner, Level 3 Muscle Testing specialist, Functional Muscle Assessment & Graduated Exercise Methods, TRX R4 Master Trainer, Level 1 Agatsu Kettlebell instructor, Bulgarian Bag instructor, Trigger Point certified trainer, Joga instructor and is certified to teach group fitness, spinning, yoga and pilates classes.
Since joining Steve Nash in 2013 Logan has achieved President’s Club twice (for personal training sales) and has moved from the personal trainer role up to Fitness Manager, District Fitness Manager and is now thrilled to be on the education team. After working with clients for many years, Logan enjoys helping trainers grow their careers and make an impact on health, fitness & well-being in our beautiful BC communities. Outside of the gym Logan enjoys yoga, cycling, hiking, reading, adventure travel and plans to take up non-meal prep cooking (aka “never mind your macros”) as a retirement sport.

<h2>ASHLEY PEREIRA-DOCHERTY</h2>

ASHLEY PEREIRA-DOCHERTY

Ashley obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UBCO and her Masters of Physiotherapy degree from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. Ashley was fortunate enough to play Varsity soccer at both universities solidifying her love of fitness and sport. Upon graduation and moving to Vancouver she completed her NASM CPT Certification through the British Columbia Personal Training Institute (BCPTI).

Currently, Ashley works as a registered physiotherapist, personal trainer and now educator at BCPTI. Ashley loves using her knowledge of abnormal movement patterns, biomechanics and exercise prescription to help clients and patients alleviate pain and injury. Along with this, she has a keen interest not only in athletic populations, but also neurological and geriatric populations, particularly in Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and falls prevention. Ashley has gotten the opportunity to partake in numerous courses and certificates and is always keen to learn new things. She is excited to have done a full loop and to start a new chapter in my career through education. She looks forward to helping others attain their goals and career prospects as an educator for BCPTI.

Health and fitness has always been a priority for Deja. Track was her original calling, followed by integrated yoga, which began her career as a personal trainer and yoga instructor at Steve Nash Fitness Clubs in 2016. Having grown up in a home surrounded by fitness and wellness influences (including mixed martial arts, yoga, Pilates, and holistic nutrition), learning and understanding how the body moves has become her passion. Always seeking to increase knowledge and skill, Deja also has an array of certifications, including Bulgarian Bag, Agatsu Kettlebell, Indian Clubs and Mace, TRX Suspension training, Trigger Point and Therapeutic Fascial Mobility. When not in the gym, Deja can be found hiking with her dog on a mountain, or planning her next adventure.

CHRISTINA TAYLOR

Program Coordinator

Educated at the Art Institute of Vancouver in Event Management, Christina is the Program Coordinator for BCPTI. Christina holds service certifications from international providers such as World Host: Customers with disabilities, World Host: Service Across Cultures and World Host: Fundamentals. Christina has always had a passion for Health, Fitness and Sports. After playing high level soccer for 12 years, she knew she wanted to work for an organization that’s core value was to make health and fitness a priority in the communities they served. She started her career in the fitness industry in 2013 with Steve Nash Fitness Clubs at the Morgan Crossing location. Soon after, she made the leap to education and began what would soon become one of the most rewarding career decisions of her life. Working alongside the Director of Education & Lead Instructor for SNFC and BCPTI, Chad Benson and the President/ COO, Chris Smith, they soon created a program unlike any other. Christina prides herself on providing a high level of service to students, grads and prospects and is extremely focused on the wellbeing and future success of the BCPTI students. In her spare time, Christina enjoys being in nature with her husband and dog, and frequently enjoys playing recreational level Softball, Tennis and Soccer.

DANIELA TEMPESTA

BGS (Applied Science), ACE Group Fitness Instructor, BCRPA CPT, BCRPA Trainer of Fitness Leaders

Daniela’s extensive background in dance has lead to a successful 16+ year career in the fitness industry. Her focus is on commitment to education and instructor development through courses, workshops, evaluations and mentoring. She is a BCRPA Trainer of Fitness Leaders & Personal Trainer, a BCABBA Fitness Tall champion competitor, fitness model, and international presenter (SCW Fitness ~Boston Mania, IDEA World Convention [LA, Las Vegas], AFAA Taiwan, BCRPA BCFit, Manitoba Fitness Council, Nelson Fitness Forum). Daniela’s certifications include: Schwinn Cycling, BOSU Trainer/3DXtreme, TRX Suspension Training, Older Adult, and Dance. A Group Fitness Manager for Steve Nash Fitness Clubs, she currently oversees Yaletown, Howe & Davie, Cambie, Marine Gateway and the Richmond locations. When she’s not at ‘the gym’, you can find Daniela in a dance class, singing out loud on the streets of downtown Vancouver or cracking silly jokes to make her niece and nephew laugh.
